The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

We’ve researched the best alternatives to online marketplaces like Amazon — these are our favorite ethical marketplaces that offer a wide range of products without sacrificing sustainability and ethics.

Finding fair-trade and sustainable products can take a lot of research and time. Instead, you can turn to these shops that curate their products based on their own set of values, including fair labor standards, organic ingredients, and give-back initiatives. Once you find a shop you trust, you can turn to them for anything on your list, whether it’s fair trade clothing, sustainable home goods, or organic skin care!

Why look for ethical online marketplaces?

Choosing ethical online marketplaces is a simple way to make sure our purchases support businesses that value sustainability, fair labor, and social responsibility. Massive retailers like Amazon have faced ongoing criticism for their environmental footprint, labor practices, and market dominance, which has prompted many of us to rethink where our money goes. By opting for more ethical platforms, we can help direct our dollars toward companies that prioritize people, the planet, and more responsible business practices.

Another benefit of shopping at ethical marketplaces is their thoughtfully curated selection of goods. Instead of endless mass-produced options, these platforms often highlight unique, handcrafted, and artisanal products you might never stumble across on larger sites. Shopping this way makes it easier to discover independent makers and small businesses while supporting their work directly. And when it comes to gift-giving, these smaller marketplaces are especially fun to browse — offering everything from handmade jewelry and eco-friendly home décor to delicious small-batch treats. The result is a gift that feels more personal, meaningful, and connected to the people who made it.

Our team has searched far and wide for alternatives to mega retailers like Amazon. We’ve selected the marketplaces below for their sustainable practices and product range, and many are even certified B Corps. They are our go-to places when looking for fair-trade and ethically sourced products.

Do you have a favorite? Drop it in the comments below, and we’ll check it out. ✨

The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

We’ve researched and tested dozens of wine clubs — these are our picks for the best natural, sustainable, or organically farmed wines across a range of price points.

To elevate our at-home dining experiences, we’re turning to wine for the perfect touch. Reds are for our cozy evenings indoors, and sparkling whites make for the most bubbly happy hour at the park. But with thousands of wines around the world, it’s hard to know which one to choose — we can’t be the only ones overwhelmed in fancy bottle shops, right? That’s why we turn to wine subscriptions for easy and stress-free selections from a wide variety of quality wines.

Why choose organic wine?

Organic wine is a great choice if you’re looking to be more conscious of the ingredients you’re choosing to consume. They reduce the risk of consuming pesticides and synthetics from conventional grapes, and they’re GMO-free. Consuming organic wine is also better for the environment as organic vineyards prioritize soil health, water conservation processes, and renewable energy use, lowering their overall carbon footprint. Some even say that the true and authentic terroir of organic wine shines through more than in conventional wines where added synthetics can impact the flavor. The more you know!

Our methodology:

For this guide, we’ve researched and tested wines from some of the best natural winemakers and sommeliers responsibly sourcing from around the globe, from California to Italy, — you’re welcome! In our opinion, these wine clubs and subscription services curate the best natural, sustainable, or organically farmed wines (and then deliver them directly to your doorstep!) We’ll cheers to that. 🥂

Looking for booze-free options for your table? Here is our guide to the best non-alcoholic wines.

15 Ethical Jewelry Brands For 2026 https://www.thegoodtrade.com/features/fair-trade-jewelry/ https://www.thegoodtrade.com/features/fair-trade-jewelry/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2026 17:38:14 +0000 For ethical and fair trade jewelry, we love these small jewelry brands offering recycled gold collections, ethical diamonds, and so much more.

The post 15 Ethical Jewelry Brands For 2026 appeared first on The Good Trade.

]]>
The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

We’ve researched and worn dozens of sustainable jewelry brands over the years — these are our personal favorites for ethical, quality pieces made with eco-friendly practices, at a variety of price points.

We’re always searching for ethical jewelry brands and small businesses for sustainable jewelry. We love finding local and woman-owned jewelry companies that dedicate themselves to thoughtful sourcing, fair wages, and give-back initiatives that truly have an impact. Whether it’s a meaningful addition to our own wardrobe or a sustainable gift for our loved ones, ethical jewelry is an accessory that we can (and do) cherish for a lifetime.

Why consider sustainable jewelry?

A hand with manicured nails, a gold ring, and a bracelet rests on an open book. The person is wearing a smartwatch with a light pink band.

Sustainable jewelry supports ethical sourcing, minimizes environmental impact, and promotes a more responsible jewelry industry by avoiding conflict minerals and supporting fair labor practices. Rather than resorting to mined minerals, sustainable jewelry brands use recycled precious metals, like gold and silver, which reduces the demand for new mining and lessens environmental disruption. Lab-grown diamonds and gemstones are also used, which also offer an ethical, lower-impact alternative to mined stones (they’re nearly identical to natural stones but come with a smaller carbon footprint and without the social and environmental issues of traditional mining).

Sustainable brands also focus on reducing waste and pollution by adopting eco-friendly production methods and packaging. With every purchase of sustainably-made jewelry, you’re contributing to an overall shift toward a more transparent and eco-conscious jewelry market.

What makes jewelry ethical?

Choosing sustainable jewelry is an important decision as conventional jewelry production is often linked to unethical work practices and environmental concerns. The traditional mining of metals and gemstones has funded armed conflicts and unsafe, exploitative labor conditions. There are also a number of environmental impacts that mining contributes to, including water pollution and soil degradation.

With every purchase of sustainably-made jewelry, you’re contributing to an overall shift toward a more transparent and eco-conscious jewelry market.

On the flip side, ethical and sustainable jewelry brands take a more mindful and transparent approach. They prioritize conflict-free materials, ensuring that gemstones and diamonds are sourced in ways that do not fund violence or human rights abuses. Many brands also adopt fair labor practices, supporting safe working conditions, fair wages, and respect for workers’ rights throughout the supply chain. Certifications such as Fair Trade help verify these commitments, while initiatives like the Kimberley Process aim to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the global market.

Ethical jewelry also often incorporates recycled metals, lab-grown diamonds, or responsibly sourced gems to minimize environmental harm and reduce the demand for destructive mining. You’ll notice that many sustainable brands value artisan craftsmanship and small-scale production, working directly with local communities to preserve traditional techniques while ensuring fair compensation.

By choosing ethical jewelry, your conscious decision supports conflict-free sourcing, dignified labor, and environmentally responsible practices — helping to create a more just and sustainable jewelry industry.

Sustainable materials to look for:

 • Recycled metals: Gold, silver, and platinum that are reclaimed and repurposed help reduce the need for destructive new mining.
 • Fairmined or Fairtrade gold: Certified gold sourced from responsible small-scale mines that meet strict social, environmental, and labor standards.
 • Conflict-free diamonds: Diamonds verified through the Kimberley Process or sourced from suppliers with transparent, traceable supply chains.
 • Lab-grown diamonds & gemstones: Chemically and visually identical to mined stones, but created with a smaller environmental footprint.
 • Recycled or reclaimed gemstones: Vintage or repurposed gems give new life to existing resources.
 • Ethically sourced natural gemstones: Mined under fair labor conditions with minimal environmental impact, often from small-scale or artisan miners.
 • Alternative sustainable materials: Pearls, wood, shells, ceramics, or other responsibly sourced natural materials offer a unique, eco-friendly touch.

Our criteria:

Our team has fallen in love with dozens of ethical and sustainable jewelry brands over the years. For this review, we pooled together our experience, researched the best brands on the market, and scoured thousands of customer reviews for this round-up of our favorites. We update this list regularly with emerging favorites that meet our criteria below.

The post The 10 Comfiest Organic Pajamas Reviewed By Our Editor appeared first on The Good Trade.

The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

When I was growing up, my family always got to open a new set of holiday jammies on Christmas Eve. Through the years, I learned which materials and prints tended to only last for a week or two before feeling outdated or falling apart, and which I found myself reaching for again and again all year round.

While the bright, festive prints are hard to resist this time of year, we like to prioritize natural and organic fabrics that are made with care. Whatever we add to the pajama drawer needs to be comfortable and breathable, and able to withstand many washes without losing shape, color, or softness. Is that so much to ask?

Why shop for sustainable and organic pajamas?

It turns out that what we sleep in is just as important as what we sleep on. Synthetic fabrics like rayon, polyester, and acrylic have all been found to contain PFAS, “forever chemicals” that don’t ever break down after being absorbed into our bodies and the earth. These chemicals have been linked to a number of serious health concerns, like asthma, cancer, and endocrine disruption. But because PFAS are also often used to achieve textile enhancement properties (wrinkle-resistance, water-repellant, quick-drying), they can be found in some natural materials like non-organic cotton as well. Which is why choosing certified organic fabrics that have been cleared for PFAS use is so important.

What are the benefits of organic and natural fiber pajamas?

First, let’s talk breathability. Natural fibers like organic cotton, linen, or bamboo allow air to circulate around your body, which helps regulate temperature as you sleep. That means less waking up in a sweaty tangle of sheets and more uninterrupted, cozy rest. Unlike synthetic fabrics, which can trap heat and moisture, natural materials keep things fresh and dry — even on warm nights.

Then there’s the weight and feel. Natural fiber pajamas often have a softer, more luxurious drape that gets better with each wash. Whether you like crisp and cool or warm and plush, you can find a natural fabric to match your preference — and they won’t weigh you down or cling like synthetic blends often do.

Durability is another plus. While fast fashion sleepwear can pill or stretch out quickly, high-quality organic PJs tend to last longer and hold their shape. Because they’re made without harsh chemical treatments, the fibers stay strong without breaking down prematurely — saving you money and reducing waste.

And here’s the kicker: Many synthetic pajamas are treated with chemicals like PFAS (also known as “forever chemicals”) or flame retardants, which can act as endocrine disruptors and have been linked to hormone imbalance, fertility issues, and more. Organic sleepwear avoids these altogether, giving you peace of mind that you’re not absorbing hidden toxins night after night.

How to choose the best pajamas for yourself (and anyone you’re gifting!):

When it comes to choosing the best pajamas, it’s all about finding the perfect blend of comfort, seasonality, and personal style. Start by thinking about the time of year and where the lucky recipient lives — lightweight, breathable fabrics like organic cotton, linen, or bamboo are ideal for warmer climates, while cozy flannel or thermal cotton is perfect for cooler ones.

Next, consider the style: Some people love the effortless feel of a flowy nightgown, while others gravitate toward the structure and coverage of a matching pajama set. Think about what makes you feel most at ease as you unwind, and ask your loved ones about their own preferences. Fabric choice is key — natural, breathable materials like organic cotton, TENCEL™, and modal are soft on the skin and better for those with sensitivities.

Pay attention to the fit, too: Waistbands, buttons, and elastic should be secure but never restrictive. Bonus features like pockets, adjustable waists, or machine-washable designs can make all the difference in your bedtime routine.

And for those who care about sustainability, look for brands that use ethical production methods and carry certifications like GOTS or OEKO-TEX. The best pajamas are the ones that feel effortless, match your lifestyle, and help you ease into sleep in total comfort.

Our criteria & methodology:

The Good Trade team hand-picked sustainable brands with pajama offerings for this test — and I was sent the ten options below for review. I slept for multiple nights in each set, and made notes on fit and comfort (including breathability, softness of materials, and warmth). We update this list with new favorites when they meet the following criteria.

We tested 10 sustainable pajama brands to find the best in comfort, breathability, and style. Each set was worn for multiple nights and judged on softness, fit, warmth, and how well it could double as daywear.
 • SIZE-INCLUSIVE | We’ve included options that carry a large range of sizes so you can find the right fit for you.
 • SUSTAINABLE | All of the brands on this list use sustainable sourcing and manufacturing, including fair labor practices, to ensure your purchase is low-impact. Many of these brands have give-back programs, too.
 • ORGANIC & NONTOXIC | The brands on this list prioritize using certified organic, natural, and recycled materials that are never treated with harsh chemicals so they’re safe for you and the earth.
 • ECO-FRIENDLY | The brands on this list avoid synthetic materials — that can take forever to break down, emitting microplastics along to way — and over-production to reduce harm to the earth. We’ve noted brands that are carbon-neutral or have other eco-initiatives.

1. Quince

Budget friendly
Eco friendly packaging
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified
Plastic/Pfas free
Size inclusive

Best For | Family sets
Size Range | XS – XL
Price Range | $20 (sleep mask) – $170 (robe)

Quince is one of our all-time favorites for finding high-quality, luxury garments at affordable price points — so when it came time to size up for my daughter’s winter jammies, I knew just where to look. The Holiday Flannel Nightgowns were too cute to resist, made from 100% recycled polyester flannel with long sleeves and a sweet ruffled hem, I knew my daughter was going to love them on sight. As far as seasonal kids’ jammies go, these are about as ideal as they come: With a relaxed, generous cut, I know she will be able to comfortably wear them for at least two winters, plus the longer hemline and the button placard make them easily double as dresses and not just nightgowns. The sweet treats print is more holiday-themed, but the tartan is a classic, timeless look that would be at home in any family photo. For myself, I opted for a Quince classic: 100% Washable Silk Pajama Shorts and Tank in crimson. The set is downright luxury, lightweight and ultra-soft — a must for this perimenopausal woman and the occasional night sweats! The brand makes silk pajamas in various sleeve and pant lengths, so you can mix and match colorways to your heart’s content.

2. Pact

Biodegradable
Budget friendly
Eco friendly packaging
Fair trade
GOTS certified
Natural materials
Recycled materials
Size inclusive

Best For | Affordable loungewear
Size Range | XS – 3XL
Price Range | $28 (tank top) – $154 (sleep set)

For the perfect affordable loungewear, look no further than Pact’s organic sleepwear. All Pact apparel is made with GOTS certified organic cotton in fair trade factories. And we’re big fans of Pact’s easygoing styles for everyone who loves sleeping in undies and basics (we see you!). I’ve had my eye on the Staycation Sleep Pant and Staycation Short Robe for a while because the one perk of WFH is making little cozy moments during stressful deadlines or meetings. (It’s not quite a staycation, but a girl can romanticize, right??) The brand did me one better and sent me the set along with the Cool Stretch Cropped Lounge Tank and Short set, and the Cool Stretch Lounge Jumpsuit which is basically everything my puttering-about-the-house dreams are made of. The one thing all of these pieces had in common is that they feel like your favorite, well-worn tee while looking structured and stylish. 10 out of 10 for this carbon-neutral brand for getting it exactly right.

3. MATE The Label

1% for the planet
American made
B corp
Circular fashion
Climate neutral
Eco friendly packaging
Natural materials
Plastic/Pfas free
Size inclusive
Woman owned

Best For | Versatile sets
Size Range | XS – 3X
Price Range | $48 (sleep tank) – $98 (sleep pant)

MATE the Label’s sleepwear pairs snuggles and sustainability, working solely with eco-friendly fabrics in downtown Los Angeles. Their sleepwear is made from 70% TENCEL™ Lyocell and 30% organic cotton, and it feels as effortlessly cool as their models make it look. I tried the Tencel Sleep Tank, Shorts, and Pant in Truffle, and I’ve already had to wash everything three or four times because I keep reaching for them again and again. The fit is kind of slinky and loose without making strange shapes or feeling bulky. Plus, sleeping in them is perfect for anyone who runs hot. I have gone from bed straight to the yoga mat to a dog walk multiple times, swapping out the bottoms for cut-offs if I needed to run to the store. The climate-neutral brand has also achieved a certified B Corp status (you can read more about their sustainability initiatives in their yearly impact report). While this brand is a bit pricier than I’d usually like, I can see that the cost-per-wear already pays for itself.

4. Boody

1% for the planet
B corp
Budget friendly
FSC
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified
Size inclusive
Vegan

Best For | Sensitive skin & cooling
Size Range | XS – XXL
Price Range | $36 (cami) – $90 (robe)

Boody’s garments, including its sleepwear collection, are crafted from viscose derived from organically grown, nontoxic bamboo. This means I was expecting super-soft, highly breathable, and hypoallergenic fabrics that feel so good on the skin — and the brand delivered. I tested out the Goodnight Raglan Sleep Shirt and Shorts, and these were hands down the most cooling fabrics of the bunch. The material reminds me of a performance fabric, only without the PFAS! The top is definitely a heavy hitter imho, and can easily go from sleep to day wear to the gym. I got the set in a beautiful pale gray-blue called Dove, but I love all of Boody’s colorways, which are a mix of neutrals and muted pinks and greens. Lightweight, with a loose, elegant drape to the fit, these are big winners that I’ll reach for again and again.

5. This is J

Eco friendly packaging
FSC
Handcrafted
Made in Canada
Natural materials
Woman owned

Best For | Bold & colorful patterns
Size Range | XS – XXL
Price Range | $99 (nightie) – $343 (4-piece set)

Make way for This is J and its wide selection of stylish patterned loungewear and sleepwear for the whole family. They have so many styles and prints it was actually kind of hard to choose! I ended up with the Oversized Tee and Harem Pant in stripes, which is definitely on the mellower side of their options (but more in line with my closet!). If you don’t know about bamboo fabrics, here’s the deal: Bamboo is soft. Soft, drapey, and cooling. It reminds me of performance fabrics — only without the PFAS ruining the party. Whether you’re on the hunt for sustainably made PJs, robes, or even maternity wear, there’s something at this brand for everyone. Each garment is handmade thoughtfully in Canada using high-quality bamboo viscose which is moisture-wicking and soft to the touch. Everything is machine washable and dryer friendly, so these beautiful patterns will remain bold and won’t pill as you live in them!

6. Under The Canopy

Budget friendly
Cruelty free
FSC
GOTS certified
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified
Small business
Vegan

Best For | Elevated sweats
Size Range | XS – XL
Price Range | $22 (swing tank) – $70 (organic waffle robe)

Under The Canopy’s sleepwear collection is luxe, buttery soft, and’ll have you snoozing in serene comfort all night long. When I put on the Organic Tapered Jogger, Organic Swing Tank, and Organic Short Robe I truly couldn’t believe the quality of these pieces at their price point. Everything is cozy and warm, with a structure that looks and feels well-made. The relaxed fit with no tags is especially clutch for anyone sensitive to that sort of thing. These pieces are all available in complementary colorways so you can easily go monochrome or mix and match for a look that feels like wearing sweats but looks like a fancy lady about to have tea on her vacation veranda. Under a…canopy, perhaps?

7. Coyuchi

1% for the planet
Circular fashion
Eco friendly packaging
Fair trade
GOTS certified
Made safe
Natural materials
Second hand
Woman owned

Best For | Romantic sleepwear
Size Range | XS – L
Price Range | $18 (sleep mask) – $148 (pajama set)

I bought my mom a robe and nightgown set from Coyuchi years ago and I’ve been itching for my own ever since. Their sleepwear is just exactly what I’m always longing for as a comfort-seeking minimalist. I tried the Isla Organic Cotton Nightgown and Isla Organic Cotton Robe in surf chambray, and they are just as gorgeous in person as they are online. There is something timelessly romantic about this set — it feels ideal for a summer weekend morning spent making pancakes and then eating them in the garden. The brand’s breathable organic cotton pajamas are GOTS and MADE SAFE certified, and sewn in a factory that recycles 98 percent of its wastewater for the ultimate sustainable snooze. Plus, Coyuchi makes organic cotton bedding so you can upgrade your whole sleep routine however you please. The TGT team also loves their cozy robes made in a variety of weights so you can enjoy being wrapped up in soft, organic comfort no matter the season or region!

8. Clementine

1% for the planet
Eco friendly packaging
FSC
Gives back
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified

Best For | Organic silk sleepwear & accessories
Size Range | XS – XL
Price Range | $308 (sleep shorts) – $701 (silk robe set)

Designed in Los Angeles from a desire to create organic sleepwear that won’t harm you (no chemical washes, microplastics, or pesticides here!) — and could actually offer health benefits, Clementine Sleepwear is a true standout when it comes to holistic luxury. The 100% organic mulberry silk and nontoxic dyes never go through stripping chemical washes, leaving them rich in natural amino proteins that help heal skin and restore hair. Anyone prone to breakouts, rashes, or unruly bedhead will particularly love these smooth, soft products. I tried the Organic Silk T-Shirt Dress in pearl white (which has a chic, oversized fit and felt like a dream), and the Organic Silver Ion Silk Sleep Mask which is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal, and aids in accelerated healing and tissue regeneration — ideal for anti-aging benefits and treating scar tissue. Both come in their own storage box made of FSC certified and recyclable materials. The boxes not only protect the silk, but opening them to get out the sleep mask each night made me feel especially fancy.

9. Organic Basics

B corp
Eco friendly packaging
GOTS certified

Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified
Recycled materials
Size inclusive
Vegan

Best For | TENCEL™ Modal Sleepwear
Size Range | XXS – XL
Price Range | $74 per piece

Certified B Corp Organic Basics is all about sustainability plus longevity — and since I’m often wearing my jim jams through the night and into the next day, this is essential for me! Founded in Denmark in 2015, these sustainable sleepwear pieces are not only a classic style that will withstand any trend cycle, but are also low on waste and impact. The fabric is a blend of organic cotton and TENCEL™ Modal, a conscious mix of natural fiber with a recycled one that creates the smoothest, silkiest feeling against your skin. I’m wearing the Core Sleep Shirt and Pants in pink stripe, which is super cute in person while also reading like “I got dressed for this!” on Zoom meetings. Basically perfect.

10. MagicLinen

Biodegradable
Budget friendly
Eco friendly packaging
Family owned
Gives back
Handcrafted
Natural materials
OEKO-TEX® certified
Recycled materials
Size inclusive

Best For | Linen pajamas & robes
Size Range | XS – XXL
Price Range | $76 (linen shorts) – $143 (linen robe)

There’s something undeniably soothing about slipping into linen at the end of a long day — and MagicLinen has absolutely mastered the art. I recently fell in love with their linen pajama set, a 100% European flax linen dream that feels just as good as it looks. Handcrafted and stone-washed for that soft, lived-in feel, this set is airy, breathable, and gentle on my skin. I appreciate that it’s OEKO-TEX® certified, meaning I can rest easy knowing it’s free from harmful chemicals. What makes MagicLinen stand out isn’t just their commitment to sustainability — it’s their singular focus on linen. They don’t dilute their mission with a million fabrics; they’re here to make linen better than anyone else. Every piece is handmade, with visible care in the construction, and I love knowing I’m supporting a brand that values slow, intentional craftsmanship.

What are the relevant certifications for organic PJs?

When shopping for organic pajamas, certifications are your best friend. They help ensure that the materials used are grown and processed without harmful chemicals, that ethical labor practices are followed, and that the finished garment is safe for you and the planet. Since terms like “natural” or “eco-friendly” aren’t regulated, looking for official certifications is the most reliable way to verify a product’s sustainability claims.

Here are some of the most relevant certifications to look for when buying organic PJs:

 • Fair Trade Certified: While not specific to organic content, this certification guarantees that workers involved in the garment’s production are paid fairly and work under safe conditions. It’s a great complement to organic certifications.
 • Certified Organic by USDA or similar national bodies: This ensures the raw cotton or fiber used in the pajamas was grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers.
 • GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): The gold standard for organic textiles. GOTS ensures that the entire production process—from growing the cotton to dyeing and sewing the garment—meets strict environmental and social criteria. It also prohibits the use of toxic dyes, heavy metals, and GMOs.
 • OEKO-TEX® Standard 100: This certification tests for harmful substances in textiles. Even if a product isn’t made from organic fibers, OEKO-TEX certification means it’s been independently verified to be free of chemicals known to be harmful to human health.
 • MADE SAFE®: A newer but growing certification that screens products for toxic chemicals and pollutants that could impact human health and the environment. A “Made Safe” label on your pajamas means peace of mind.

The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

Our editors have tested out and treated ourselves to sustainable self-care gifts for the past ten years — here are our top picks for your loved ones in need of some mindful rest and renewal.

We can all agree that self-care is something we could use a little more of — and gifts are one main way that we care for ourselves and others. Gift-giving is even listed as one of the five love languages that help us to express affection and tenderness for each other and ourselves. Nothing says appreciation quite like the gift of self-care, allowing the receiver to linger, pamper, and restore. We know that taking time each day for ourselves can boost our mood, keep us positive, and reduce stress levels, making self-care not only a luxury but a necessity.

Why give the gift of self-care?

In a world that moves way too fast, giving the gift of self care is a thoughtful reminder for someone to slow down, breathe, and recharge. Whether it’s a cute notebook, comfy loungewear, or a soothing skincare set, self-care gifts show love in the most nurturing way. It’s not just about pampering — it’s about helping someone feel grounded, balanced, and appreciated. And honestly, who doesn’t need a little more of that?

Self-care gifts also show that you really see the person. You’re acknowledging their hard work, their stress, or just their need for a little joy. They’re perfect for birthdays, thank-yous, or just-because moments. And the best part? You’re encouraging someone to pause and reconnect with themselves, which is one of the most powerful things you can give. It’s not just a gift — it’s a gentle push toward well-being, peace of mind, and feeling cared for in the most personal way.

Our team has researched and tested hundreds of wellness products and experiences over the past ten years. These are our favorite self-care items from sustainable brands to gift yourself or a loved one who is in need of some R&R, at a variety of price points.

If you’re still looking for even more self-care presents for yourself or a loved one, we’ve for you covered with our guides on fair trade chocolate, natural wines, sleep gifts, and wellness-based sex toys. ❤️

When it comes to curating the space around you, you can never be too personal. Whether you’ve recently moved to a new bare-walled place or you’re looking to shake up your existing home decor, you deserve mindfully chosen artwork that feels inspiring — so sometimes Home Goods artwork just doesn’t cut it.

If you want to invest in wall art that works for your space while also supporting independent artists, check out the below marketplaces for buying art online. You’ll find something for every budget and in every size and style, whether you love minimalistic block prints, colorfully dreamy watercolors, or vintage posters that’ll make you laugh. Trust us, that blank wall in your apartment is worth decorating — viewing art has been shown to increase dopamine production and critical thinking skills. And it’s nice to look at cute things.

1. Etsy

Best For | Prints, illustrations, paintings, photography
Our Picks | Clare Elsaesser, Ossuarium Floreus, September Wren, helobirdie
Price Range | $+

There isn’t much you can’t find on Etsy — sellers purvey anything from gag gifts to worm-on-a-string earrings to knit goods to a taxidermy mouse Pope Francis — but it remains one of the best online places to find art. Artists sell their own hand-drawn or hand-painted art, original photography, and (the more affordable option) prints of their work, and you can find something in pretty much any style or price point you’re looking for. The best part? Not only has Etsy generated more than $4 billion dollars for small businesses, but they are looking to reach net zero emissions by 2030. Just be sure to check the shop’s page to make sure you’re buying art from the original artist.

2. Minted

Best For | Prints, sculpture, kids’ art, commissioned pieces
Our Picks | Jess Blazejewski, Morgan Kendall, Theresa Bear, Shina Choi
Price Range | $$+

You might know Minted from their wedding and holiday card designs, but they’re also an online art marketplace — and they do things a little differently, aiming to continually discover new creative talent, uncovering what real consumers are looking for. Here’s how it works: anyone can submit a design during Minted’s design challenges. Then, the most popular designs are chosen by customer votes and crowdsourcing analytics. Minted then produces and sells the winning designs, paying the artists an ongoing commission. Check out all of their direct from artist pieces here, including wall art and other artist-designed home goods like candle holders, vases, and textiles.

3. Paper Collective

Best For | Sustainability, photography, prints, kids’ art
Our Picks | Jonas Wagell, Yanyi Ha, Anna Mörner, Uffe Buchard, All the Way to Paris
Price Range | $$+

Copenhagen-based Paper Collective sells one-of-a-kind, affordable art prints with a focus on sustainability. They’re an art collective of handpicked artists — to date there are over 80 artists, designers, and studios in the collective, and their available pieces are stunningly original and artsy. The brand is constantly refreshing its lineup of art selections, aiming “to discover great art, make it affordable, available and share it with the world,” says their website. All of their paper products are made in Denmark using FSC certified materials, and all their other products are made in Europe. And they offer free worldwide shipping!

4. Tappan

Best For | Original works, prints, paintings, drawings, limited edition
Our Picks | Gia Coppola, Yeon Kyung Park, Gabrielle Teschner, AOTH
Price Range | $$$+

Launched in 2012, Tappan is another collective, aiming to support emerging artists and connect them with collectors and consumers around the world. Basically an online art gallery, Tappan supports its artists with exhibitions, residencies, strategic partnerships, and connections with collectors — and it allows customers to browse the artists’ unique works, both originals and prints. While you can purchase original works at Tappan for upwards of a few thousand dollars, they also have limited edition and open run prints starting at $50.

5. The Crafted Prints

Best For | Affordable prints, photography
Our Picks | Amy Kim, Henry Rivers
Price Range | $

The Crafted Prints, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, is on a mission to offer high quality, ethically made prints at an affordable price. The family-run business started when owners Vanessa and Joshua could finally afford their own place, but not art to go on the walls. So they started making their own art and selling it at artisan fares. Other artists wanted to sell alongside them, and so The Crafted Prints was born. Today, they sell affordable wall art from a lineup of tons of different artists, producing all of their prints ethically at their low-waste California studio. They purchase all materials from North American suppliers, and donate a portion of proceeds to fighting human trafficking.

6. Artsy

Best For | Original paintings, fine art, prints
Our Picks | Emily Cheng, Suzanne Laura Kammin, adeoluwa oluwajoba, Zanele Muholi, Hilda Palafox
Price Range | $$$+

Artsy is the world’s leading art marketplace, designed for contemporary artists and serious collectors. It’s a sort of hybrid art gallery— you can browse, bid on, and buy art online from some of the world’s top contemporary artists like Takashi Murakami and Barbara Kruger, as well as check out featured galleries and exhibits to discover emerging art trends. Artsy also allows collectors to manage their own collections by helping them sell pieces and track the market. And if you’re not a serious collector, no problem; Artsy has articles, interviews, and other educational content, along with contemporary art finds under $500.

7. Upton

Best For | Prints, canvas, sculptures
Our Picks | “Gozo“,” “Burren,” and “Hemera
Price Range | $+

Founded by artist Michael Upton and his wife, Mariel, Upton is a Southern California-based design studio that creates unique and affordable home goods and art. Embracing “the handmade and imperfect,” the studio produces prints and woven art along with simple sculptures, tableware, vases, and even some cool wall hooks. Printing on both 100% cotton canvas or paper, their wall art is calming yet geometrical, bold yet neutral, and minimally abstract — so you’ll find pieces to compliment pretty much any space. (Check out Upton originals here.)

8. Blockshop Textiles

Best For | Block prints
Our Picks | “Byway,” “Arch Poppies,” “Eclipse
Price Range | $$

Founded by artists and sisters Hopie and Lily Stockman, LA-based Blockshop Textiles produces handmade art, apparel, and home goods. Their abstract minimalist prints, featuring neutral colors and calming, geometric designs, are all block printed by studios in India. They draw and design all of their products themselves, and partner exclusively with family-owned studios in LA, Italy, and India to produce everything small-batch. Every design you see on their prints was stamped by hand with an intricately carved block, using non-toxic dyes and paper made from cotton apparel waste. And each year, five percent of Blockshop Textiles’ profits go to education and healthcare community initiatives in India and LA.

9. eBay

Best For | Secondhand art, vintage posters, prints, paintings
Our Picks | Boogie Woogie Vintage, Jose Trujillo, Temple of Vintage
Price Range | $+

While eBay remains a hotspot for secondhand goods of all kinds, like jewelry, collectibles, antiques, books, and apparel, you can find some pretty cool wall art offerings, too. You can find one-of-a-kind pieces like vintage posters, photographs, and paintings, and some artists have their own storefronts to sell their original work. And you can bid on eBay artwork, meaning you’ll never spend more than you’re comfortable spending.

9 Cutting Boards Crafted From Sustainable Wood https://www.thegoodtrade.com/features/sustainable-cutting-boards/ https://www.thegoodtrade.com/features/sustainable-cutting-boards/#comments Thu, 08 Jan 2026 02:49:39 +0000 These are our editors' favorite options for wooden cutting boards that are nontoxic, easy to clean, and made to last.

The post 9 Cutting Boards Crafted From Sustainable Wood appeared first on The Good Trade.

The Good Trade editors endorse products we’ve personally researched, tested, and genuinely love. Learn more about our methodology and business model here.

We’ve researched, tested, and corresponded with the best sustainable kitchenware brands — these are our favorite options for wooden cutting boards that are nontoxic, easy to clean, and made to last.

Sure, plastic cutting boards are convenient. They’re usually dishwasher safe and easy to clean, resisting bacteria buildup and speeding up your cleaning time. But at what cost?

These days, whenever we make a home goods purchase, we’re thinking about longevity. What will hold up for years to come? What’s made by a company we can feel good about supporting? And what’s not going to introduce questionable materials into our home?

And on a less important note, we love products that combine form and function, looking as beautiful as they are durable — which is where wooden cutting boards come in. A well-made, solid wood cutting board, as long as you take care of it by handwashing and periodically conditioning it, should last you pretty much forever. They won’t dull your knives, and they won’t shed microplastics into your food, either.

What are microplastics — and why are they in my kitchen?

Microplastics are what they sound like: The microscopic bits of plastic into which plastics break down, because plastic can take thousands of years to fully break down. Studies have shown that microplastics can build up in our bodies, potentially contributing to adverse health effects like inflammation, metabolism disturbances, and neurotoxicity.

Other recent studies have shown that plastic cutting boards are potentially the most significant source of microplastics in food. When you chop veggies or meat on a plastic board, microplastics then cling to your food. To be clear, microplastics can come from anything — even from twisting the cap off a plastic bottle — but we like to try to reduce them however we can. One way is by avoiding plastic cooking utensils. Another is by switching to wooden cutting boards.

Our criteria:

Our team has personally tested, researched, and vetted hundreds of kitchenware lines to find you the best brands offering beautiful and easy-to-clean nontoxic wooden cutting boards. Instead of PFAS-heavy materials like plastic, these options are all made from eco-friendly FSC-certified wood and are never treated with any harsh chemicals. They’re thoughtfully crafted, designed to last, and safe enough to use every day. We regularly add new options to the list when they meet the criteria below.

 • NONTOXIC & ECO-FRIENDLY | The options on this list are all safe for your kitchen and for the earth, too. They use FSC certified wood, avoid any harsh chemical finishes, and many of these brands have thoughtful give-back programs that promote a better planet.
 • DURABLE | Cutting boards get a lot of use! These options are crafted to last through many cheese board displays, chops, and washes without losing their charm.
 • AFFORDABLE | We’ve included options for different budgets — whether you’re looking to invest or for a minimal upgrade, you’ll find something on this list.

If you’re in the market for more nontoxic cookware, check out our guide to the best wooden utensils and nontoxic pots and pans.

1. Avocado

1% for the planet
B corp
Climate neutral
FSC
Greenguard certified
Handcrafted
Made safe

Best For | Boards from a B Corp
Materials | Upcycled maple, beechwood, and walnut; finished with linseed oil & beeswax
Price | Starting at $129

Sustainable home goods brand Avocado has been a favorite at TGT for years now for their sustainable mattresses and certs like Climate Neutral and B Corp. And their offerings go far beyond mattresses and linens — they make furniture, bath products, and accessories like cutting boards. Their zero-waste cutting boards are made of upcycled beechwood, walnut, and maple that would otherwise go to the landfill, and they come in three different shapes. The largest option measures two feet long, while the smallest option is 12 inches (and it has a cute scalloped edge design), and each handcrafted board is finished with a blend of linseed oil and beeswax for durability. The upcycled cutting boards help Avocado’s certified landfill diversion rate of 85% — meaning they upcycle and recycle 85% of all manufacturing waste.

2. Caraway

Budget friendly
Eco friendly packaging
FSC

Best For | Budget-friendly wooden cutting board
Materials | FSC-certified birch wood
Price | Starting at $35

While Caraway is known for their ceramic non-stick cookware that’s free of Teflon, they make plenty of other kitchen essentials with that same ethos of putting quality first. They carry three sizes of rectangular cutting boards (the smallest is 10 inches long and the largest is 17), each of which is made of FSC-certified birch wood and finished with a food-safe blend of mineral oil and wax for an antibacterial finish. Each board has a recessed groove for catching juices or little bits of food waste. You can grab any size board in a single, double, or even a 6-pack, depending on your kitchen needs. Or, for a little bit of everything, check out their 4-piece wooden cutting board set that features one of each size cutting board along with a rack to store them all vertically and compactly. And it’s worth noting that Caraway’s boards are some of the most budget-friendly on this list.

Customer Review | “From the size, texture, weight and look the Caraway cutting board set is unmatched. Each board contains a depressed storage area—and all three boards are stored nicely together in the included rack. We are very happy with our purchase. Thank you.” – Andrew P. (Read more reviews.)

3. Etsy

American made
FSC
Handcrafted
Small business
USDA organic

Best For | Handmade by small businesses
Materials | FSC-certified birch wood
Price | Starting at $50

On Etsy, you’ve got to spend a little bit more time perusing the offerings to find a high-quality cutting board that’s handmade of sustainably sourced wood — but there are so many fantastic options, it doesn’t take long to hit the jackpot. You’ll find plenty of different cutting boards handmade by artisans in the US in all different types of wood, and many of them will even personalize the board (making them great wedding or hostess gifts). Rugged Woodworking crafts solid, one-piece cutting boards finished with organic coconut oil, carnauba wax, and local beeswax from their Utah workshop, while Walker Woodworking in Maine crafts three-piece sets of attractive, mixed wood cutting boards. And Refine Kitchenware in Ohio makes their large, customizable cutting boards out of FSC-certified walnut in lots of shapes and styles.

Customer Review | “I am beyond impressed with the custom cutting board I ordered from this Etsy shop! The craftsmanship is exceptional, and the personalization is flawless. The wood is beautiful and smooth, and you can tell it’s made with great care.” – Glo Morrell (Read more reviews.)

4. Made In

American made
Family owned
Natural materials

Best For | Chef-approved products
Materials | Maple wood
Price | $129

If you want to cook like professional chefs do, check out Made In. They carry high-quality cookware with industry pricing for hospitality groups, and regular pricing for everyday consumers, so you know your cookware is being used in professional kitchens, too. Their maple butcher block measures 12 inches wide by 18 inches long, and has a thick, sturdy depth of about an inch and a half. One side has a groove to catch juices, while the other side is completely flat. The butcher block is made in the US and steamed for durability — with proper handwashing, it’s designed to last you pretty much forever. The maple wood’s grain makes the board as beautiful as it is durable, meaning you can use it for charcuterie boards and other displays, and you can even personalize it for an extra $30.

Customer Review | “Great butcher block. It’s sturdy and beautiful. Our last name engraved on it was a special touch. Would highly recommend.” – Drew H. (Read more reviews.)

5. Our Place

BIPOC Owned
Eco friendly packaging
Gives back
Woman owned

Best For | A deep groove to hold juices
Materials | Walnut
Price | $95

LA-based kitchenware brand Our Place specializes in minimalist kitchen essentials for the home cook, and their walnut cutting board is no exception. Made from premium American black walnut and measuring 12 by 17 inches, it just might be the last cutting board you ever need. Its deep groove on one side holds up to ⅔ a cup of liquid, perfect for slicing meat or juicy fruits. The other side doubles as a serving platter (the board has inset handles on either side), and the board’s gentle walnut surface keeps your knives nice and sharp. Our Place recommends treating your board with food-grade mineral oil every so often to prevent cracking and drying, especially after the first few uses as you break it in. The brand sells a bundle that combines the walnut cutting board with three premium knives, and they make a non-slip cutting board made of 100% recycled plastic, too.

Customer Review | “Love this cutting board! The design, and materials are great. It is functional and beautiful. Heavy duty and after 2 months of use, you can’t even tell. Unlike other cutting boards or bamboo boards we’ve used, this one is sturdy and great!” – Patricia F. (Read more reviews.)

StoneWon Designs makes handcrafted cutting boards at their Texas studio from solid American-grown wood — their over-the-sink cutting board features a clever mesh strainer through which you can wash produce or let juices drain, while their cover/noodle board fits over the stove when it’s not in use, giving you extra countertop space. West Elm’s more budget-friendly options by BergHOFF are made of lightweight, durable bamboo, while their statement cutting boards include this Steph Trowbridge cutting board with a sculptural design made in South Jersey. Along with lifting up local artisans, West Elm partners with organizations like Fair Trade USA, the Fifteen Percent Pledge, and the NAACP.

7. Public Goods

Materials | Sustainably grown acacia wood, wood fiber, compressed paper
Price | Starting at $50

Public Goods might be known for its products like simple, refillable toiletries and cleaning products. And while their membership program can get you serious savings on their refillables, you shouldn’t sleep on their home goods and kitchen products, too. They make two cutting boards, both of which are made of wood. Their large wood serving board is made of sustainably sourced acacia wood and, measuring almost 18 inches long, works just as well as a cutting board as it does for serving cheese and charcuterie. Their eco-friendly cutting board is a better alternative to standard plastic cutting boards — super durable and bacteria-resistant, it’s made of compressed paper and wood fiber, which is the same material used to make skateboard ramps. It has silicone corners to make it slip-resistant, and a groove around the edge to catch juices.

Customer Review | “Amazing board sits securely in place while I chop. Dishwasher safe! I am replacing my plastic ‘boards’ because I want to limit exposure to plastics. I quickly bought a second one and will purchase 2 of the smaller size as soon as they are in stock.” – Jill R. (Read more reviews.)

8. Teakhaus

FSC
Natural materials
Plastic/Pfas free

Best For | Made of wood from FSC forests
Materials | FSC-certified teak
Price | Starting at $25

Teakhaus makes all of its cutting boards from FSC-certified teak wood sourced from Proteak, a forestry company that cultivates sustainable teak forests in Central and South America. They come in lots of sizes and shapes, from their small, rounded edge board that’s a foot long to their extra large end-grain cutting board that’s two feet long and has a moat and carrying handles to their circular round end grain cutting board. Each board is highly stain- and moisture-resistant and is made from end grain teak that keeps your knives sharper for longer. And they have beautiful designs to boot — some feature an edge grain in a delicate striped pattern, while on others, the wood is cut into a sophisticated checkerboard pattern.

Customer Review | “I’ve had this cutting board for over two years now and it still looks as gorgeous as the day it came out of the (heavy) box! Planning on purchasing the large one with a moat in the near future!” – Eliza P. (Read more reviews.)

9. Material

BIPOC Owned
Budget friendly
Gives back
Recycled materials
Woman owned

Best For | Dishwasher-safe boards
Materials | Recycled plastic, renewable sugarcane
Price | Starting at $35

The one exception on this list of wooden cutting boards, Material’s cutting boards aren’t made from wood. But they still deserve a space here for their impressive sustainability specs. They’re made from 75% recycled kitchen plastic scraps and 25% renewable sugarcane, and they come in four different trendy colors. And the best part? Unlike wooden cutting boards, they’re dishwasher safe for easy clean up. The reBoards measure around 15 inches long and go for $35 each — or, for a better deal, grab their reBoard duo that includes one full-size board and one mini board, measuring 13 inches long, for $55 total.

Customer Review | “This is an excellent midsize cutting board. It is not loud, it doesn’t move and it is dishwasher safe. And I like the color. I got 3 cutting boards and will use them all.” – Julia J. (Read more reviews.)
