I also have a designated craft table/area by the window sill overlooking my complex’s courtyard which has candles and incense that I like to burn to set the mood. It’s super relaxing.

I love the tranquility of being out in my garden (in summer) with a cup of coffee, listening to the birds, and looking at my flowers. During the winter, I tend to read more in the mornings. I have to get ready for work most days, and 15 minutes of Yoga is a part of my daily routine. I feel grounded after these daily practices and really miss it on days when I choose not to practice.

Consequently, my morning routine is…non-existent. Really need to work on prioritizing my rest. I’ll never be a full-on “morning person” but even an extra 15 minutes of time awake and peaceful would be a better start to my day.

I love this! This is my second new year as a mom, but my first as a mom of two! The reminder of night time routine is so important. My daughter is 6 months and still has at least one wake up between 11pm and 5am so making sure i’m physically in bed by 10:30pm (and hopefully asleep by 11) has done wonders for my energy the next day. I set out everything I need to make coffee in the morning and make sure the kettle is full. I also write down on a sticky note everything I need to take to work/child care the next day and make sure it’s all piled together so I can grab it in one go. I’ve realized doing all of this right after the kids go to bed allows me and my husband to spend an hour or two together before going to bed. I definitely have not been a morning person in the past so my night routine has really helped me be able to wake up at 6:30, get the coffee going, then go feed my baby and get the toddler up and fed without having to rush around gathering my lunch or things I need to bring to work. I’ve been back at work for a week now and so far have left the house on time with everything I need, every time! I feel like i’m arriving at work ready to take on the day and not just grateful I made it to the office at all. I do need to work on the no phone/doom scrolling in the morning though haha.

Having that quiet time to ease into the day gives me a positive outlook and helps me feel more balanced. I love your ideas for evening routines! I’ve noticed that I sleep much better when I limit screen time in the evenings and choose quiet activities like reading, drawing/painting, or journaling. Going for a long walk with our dogs after dinner also helps me to slow down and let go of the day. Great article! Thank you!

My go-to is a Mon Rovia playlist. Between that and the soft tabletop lamp light our mornings feel soft and dreamy.

I too still sleep with my mobile phone on my bedside table but turned to ‘do not disturb’ with a few select people allowed to come through to me – my husband works partly nights. But in the mornings I have a list of affirmations I’ve crafted that I say, out loud, despite the funny looks from my son, before I get out of bed or check my phone. It definitely sets a positive tone for my days.
