I’ve had my wearable for almost 6 years now and was so proud of the fact that I have not missed a single day. While I love the nerdy tech aspect of it, I’ve started to realize that I’ve lost the ability to trust myself and my body. There have been countless days where I’ve woken up feeling on top of the world, but my tracker shows me in red and then I think “Hmm, maybe I don’t feel so good.” Or the opposite – I wake up feeling like junk, but the tracker shows me in green and praises me on my great recovery. It’s baffling at times.

The tracking of metrics and the daily streak number became almost like an innocent addiction.

I am up for renewal in a couple of months and will not be continuing. My overthinking mind has already started to challenge me – ‘How will I know how I feel if I don’t have a device telling me how I should feel?’.

I am looking forward to using the money spent on the subscription to instead treat myself more intentionally – a massage, a new loose-leaf tea, a book I’ve been wanting to read, a new foam roller. That’s my incentive as I transition back to a more in-tune, simpler connection to my own body.

I talked with my mom recently about getting rid of my wearable. I became tired of that stress of “closing the rings,” so I started pausing them to reframe my approach. It has helped tremendously.
