I’m 46 and have shunned online dating since 2011. None of my experiences were positive and I simply don’t enjoy dating enough to put myself through that. All of my best relationships (limited in number as they are) were with men I met organically while just out doing my thing and with whom I was friends with first.
Don’t search any further…
Nothing to do.
Nothing to force,
Nothing to want,

I’m 40 and I have been single for many years. I find online dating to be mostly just awful. After reading this I chuckled a little to myself bc now I know it doesn’t get better at any age. Men are always going to act and be the way that they are and I should stay single.

I met the love of my life online and we married in 2018 at 51 and 57. The part of this story that I disagreed with is having dinner on a first date. Coffee? Sure. Or let’s walk somewhere. Meet at a park and take a walk, meet at a mall and take a walk, wander through a bookstore and show each other what type of things you like. But never a movie and never dinner on the first date. You can’t talk at the movies, and dinner can be a LONG awkward experience if you don’t click in real life.

I am your parallel sister in Texas. I’m 52 and I stopped dating this last April 2023. My mother said a similar phrase. “Don’t tell me you met someone until you know he’s yours.” Online experiences the same. I am divorced however, 16 years now. I lost my mother March of 2022. Her words over the years now reverberate in my ear on a daily basis. Oh, how right she was about everything.

This was so relatable! I’m in my late 30’s now, conscious of the fact that I’m single, never married, with no children when it seems everyone around me is hitting those societal benchmarks. The loneliness can bite sometimes, but after so many years spent looking for the right person and wasting so much energy on the wrong ones, I’m tired!
You put it beautifully, no settling for crumbs! I really admire that you’ve found purpose in focusing on meaningful relationships and pursuing your passions, and am grateful to have come across your article. Thank you for sharing the wisdom to “stop looking.”

There’s those moments that come where I wonder – Is another special someone out there to share life with? Then I meet a few men and remember why I’m still single. I won’t settle for crumbs.

This lighthearted monocular snippet of a persons experience of the new ages’ dating scene feels soo tangible. Hearing her personal experiences drove me to laugh out loud at the situations she found herself in. Too funny! All the while reminding me that humanity will never stop surprising you while you are “looking” for that special person to augment your life.
I admire Stefanie’s ability to stand back and gain perspective and why she felt the need to look. Meanwhile discovering her incredible amount of resolve and satisfaction within herself and with “herself” and her own accomplishments.
